Understanding Fuel Octane Ratings
Do I really need to use a higher octane fuel if my vehicle requires it? In today’s tight economy customers are looking to save money anywhere they can. However, using a lower octane fuel when your vehicle requires a higher octane fuel may save you some money in the short term but can actually end up costing you in the long term.
Most engines that require higher octane fuel are high performance engines in more sporty vehicles. These engines are engineered with higher compression ratings which require the anti-knock compounds found in higher octane fuels. Anti-knock compounds reduce the temperature of the fuel as it burns and allows high performance engines to operate at peak performance. If your vehicle requires a higher octane fuel and you use a lower octane fuel then you may experience pre-ignition knocking and/or engine pinging, which can lead to costly engine repairs down the road.
On the flip side, using a higher octane fuel when your vehicle requires a lower octane fuel will do only one thing; decrease your cash flow. Higher octane fuels won’t make your lower octane engine run any smoother or get any better gas mileage. The best advice is to use the octane fuel that the manufacture recommends. Also, if you are looking to get a new or used vehicle be sure to research which type of fuel is required and factor that into the cost of ownership.

 Jesus is Watching
A burglar got into a house one night. Shining his flashlight on the floor in the dark, he heard a voice saying, "Jesus is watching you."
He looked around nervously, shook his head, and kept looking for valuables. He again heard, "Jesus is watching you."
This time, he shone his light all over, and it rested on a parrot.
He asked, "Did you say that?"
