We
want to wish all of our customers a very
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We
know that many of you will be traveling
this holiday season and we want everyone
to stay safe. The Federal
Highway Administration has compiled
a list of safety tips to keep in mind when
you travel this year:
Safety comes first:
+ Always buckle up. In 2004, an estimated
55 percent of those killed in passenger
vehicle crashes were not wearing safety
belts.
+ Don't tailgate. For every 10 mph of speed,
stay at least one vehicle length behind
the vehicle in front of you.
+ On icy roads, you should allow at least
three times more space between you and the
vehicle in front of you. Remember that bridges
and overpasses are usually the first to
freeze in cold conditions.
+ Slow down during bad weather. Each year,
there are approximately 6,500 fatalities
and 450,000 injuries from crashes that occur
during bad weather.
+ Use child safety seats properly.
+ Obey speed limits.
+ Slow down in construction zones and pay
attention to warning signs and road crew
flaggers.

TO SERVICE OR NOT TO SERVICE?
There is no such thing as a maintenance-free
transmission
by Lloyd
L. Beverly, ASE Master Technician
In today's automotive world there is a misunderstanding
that has become common place among the motoring
public. The misunderstanding is that you
never have to service your transmission,
or that extremely long transmission service
intervals (between 50,000 to 100,000 miles)
are adequate. If you have bought a new car
recently you may have heard the sales claim
of a sealed transmission or a maintenance-free
transmission. These claims are confusing
and don't give technically accurate information,
which leads to improper transmission maintenance
and ultimately may lead to costly transmission
repairs. The
fact is there is no such thing as a
sealed transmission or a maintenance-free
transmission. Every
trans-mission has some means of being serviced.
With
all of the different types of transmissions
in the market place the question arises:
How often
should I service my transmission?
Most manufacturers base their recommended
maintenance intervals on two different driving
conditions, either normal or severe duty.
Hot outside air temperatures, stop and go
traffic, dusty or rough roads and construction
zones all create severe duty driving conditions.
If you live or work in Central Florida,
then you experience all of these conditions
and would fall under the severe duty category.
My
family at Harrell and Beverly Transmissions
has been servicing and repairing transmissions
for almost 50 years and we have seen time
and time again the importance of servicing
a transmission. Lack of proper and routine
maintenance will lead to premature failure
and costly repair bills. The average driver
puts approximately 15,000 miles on their
vehicle in a years time. Based on Central
Florida driving conditions, technical data
and nearly 50 years of transmission experience,
Harrell &
Beverly Transmissions recommends to service
a transmission every 15,000 miles or once
a year (which ever occurs first).
Our
goal at Harrell & Beverly Transmissions
is to give our customers the best information
possible so they can make the best decisions
possible. If you have more than 15,000 miles
on your vehicle since your last transmission
service, the time is now to have your transmission
serviced. Give your transmission a fighting
chance and have us service it today. Give
us a call at 407-322-8415 to setup an appointment
or check us out on the web at www.HBT.4T.com
